Writing for publication has has many myths that surround it. Most people think their writing is simply not good enough for anyone to want to publish their work. Or most likely, you don’t have enough time to write.
We could go on and on, but one thing I can assure you: If you are a writer, and you want to have your work published in an ELT magazine, journal, newsletter, or blog, then you can achieve your dream.
All you have to do is persevere. Sooner or later, you will see your work in print. Ask any writer what their secret is, and they will tell you: Perseverance. Never give up, and success will happen for you.
Publish or Perish. Like it or not, if you have chosen academia as a career, there is very little alternative to publishing. You must seek the legitimacy of peer approval on the one hand, and the track record of consistent publications. A one off publication in a local magazine or journal, once a year, simply is not enough. Yet how to publish, when no one ever taught you how to write and publish a Research Article, let alone an entire book. This book fills that gap by sharing with students, teachers, investigators and researchers the writing for publication process. Its message is reduced to one fundamental virtue: Perseverance. Rejection is to be expected and is dealt with positively. If a writer is perseverant, her / his efforts will result in publication.
The purpose of Teaching Academic Writing is to help you achieve your dream of “Writing for Publication”. I have faith and confidence in your abilities. I know you can do it, especially, if you never give up on yourself. Hold your head up high, and keep writing…
