In 2011 education was all the rage in Chile. So what better way to kick off the New Year than with Edcamp, a novel and innovative concept in education.

This month Santiago, Chile welcomes South America’s first-ever Edcamp and Ilovechile is proud to be one of the sponsors.

As part of Ilovechile’s commitment to Edcamp Santiago, we have offered to donate newspapers to the event, each attached with a guide on how Ilovechile media group can be used as an educational tool for learning English.

What is Edcamp?

Edcamp is a creative and innovative take on the concept of a conference. Known as an unconference, it provides an enlightened way for teachers to discuss, collaborate and learn from each other an informal setting.

Edcamp has the potential to do for education what the phone did for communication and what the internet did for information. Just as the tools for communication have come a long way since the telegram, the tools for teaching have come a long way since the abacus and Bill Nye the Science guy.

Edcamp Santiago intends to help teachers learn from teachers.

Edcamp Santiago does this by bringing teachers together. Once together, the sharing and learning is reciprocal, shared from teacher to teacher, in an active, collaborative and participative fashion. This contrasts with the typical top down conference model, from guru / expert to the passive learner.

Unlike a traditional conference, at Edcamp there are no keynote speakers, anyone and everyone can be a presenter, the schedule of sessions is not decided until the morning of and the event is free.

All of the available spaces have been taken already. Edcamp Santiago is “SOLD OUT / AGOTADO!
