Teaching the Four Skills

Over the course of my teaching career I have learned much from observation and experimentation with my students. I owe an eternal debt of gratitude for their willingness to cooperate with me over the years.

Thank you, dear students!

EFL Teachers: No matter how good a particular resource or lesson may be, in the end, there is no substitute for the teacher’s own judgement about what works and what doesn’t work with your students.. In this spirit, I recommend the activities for teaching the four skills contained within these pages: Reading Writing Speaking Listening.

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective that ever existed. Nowhere in the universe would you find another who shares his singular ability to deduce the truth. And there’s his friend Dr. Watson.

This joke centres on Watson’s attempt to out-deduce Holmes himself. You might have heard this joke before, but it’s never been told like this. Learn dozens of new words and expressions in English and have a good laugh at the same time.

I’m sure Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would have approved of this English lesson. There is a fabulous new-style audio-visual quiz to go with this video. Find it at the link below. Incidentally, this video was made in response to a request from E5D7S a student from Poland. | http://linguaspectrum.com/lessons/language_lessons/sherlock_holmes/
